Born: Maximillian Adolph Otto Siegfried Schmeling
Heavyweight Champion 1930-32
At one time a very hated man in the United States, Max Schmeling was an excellent boxer and sportsman who proved himself worthy of the world heavyweight championship. Schmeling was a victim of his times, held up by Nazi Germany as an example of Aryan supremacy. His fights became symbolic of a much greater struggle, but Schmeling the man was simply a good fighter who wanted to reach the top.
